As America honored those who fought for the stars and stripes during Memorial Day weekend, two young ladies were wiping stars out of their eyes, as they were crowned Miss Black Texas USA Pre-Teen and Talented Teen. Miss Black Cypress USA Talented Teen Morgan Ned is the new Miss Black Texas USA Talented Teen. Miss Black Houston USA Pre-Teen Bridget Anne Reagins is the new Miss Black Texas USA Pre-Teen.
Ned, who was crowned by Miss Black Texas USA Talented Teen 2009 Nicole Hickl, expressed shock when her name was called as the winner since she felt the other contestants were all very talented. She also won the fitness and talent competitions. Ned is a thirteen-year-old ninth grader at Cy-Woods High School. The gifted dancer is a member of the Peer Leadership Program, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Bellavista Youth Organization. Her platform is entitled "Learning Today, Educating Tomorrow." Her goal is to inspire her peers to value their education through tutoring and mentoring them.
Miss Black Marshall USA Talented Teen, Danelle Womack (Best Evening Gown) was named first runner-up. Miss Black Harris County USA Talented Teen, Lauren Clemons (Best Interview) was named second runner-up.
Miss Black East Texas USA Talented Teen Taylor Helton (Miss Hospitality), Miss Black Fort Bend County USA Talented Teen Tre’Chele Dukes (Miss Congeniality), and Miss Black Houston USA Talented Teen Arielle Watson (Miss Photogenic) rounded out the field of contestants. On Saturday evening, the coveted title of Miss Cover Girl was announced and Teen Arielle Watson, Miss Black Houston USA Talented Teen was crowned as the winner.
Morgan Ned will now prepare to compete nationally at the 2010 Miss Black USA Talented Teen Pageant. The national pageant will be held in August in Washington, D.C.
Reagins is a twelve-year-old eighth grader at the St. Thomas More Parish School. She also won the interview and talent competitions. She is an active member of the Girl Scouts of America and the Knights of St. Peter Claver Junior Daughter Division Court #231. After losing a dear friend to gun violence, Bridget wants to use her reign to bring attention to the subject. She also pledges continue her to work with the Houston Food Bank. "I look forward to meeting new people, speaking in public, hosting and doing different fundraisers and having fun during my reign," said Reagins.
Miss Black Central Texas USA Pre-Teen, Briana Edmonds (Miss Congeniality, Best Fitness, and Best Evening Gown) was named first runner-up. Miss Black East Texas USA Pre-Teen, Tamia Douglas (Miss Photogenic) was second runner-up; Miss Black Harris County USA Pre-Teen, Demi Townes was third runner –up; Miss Black Fort Bend County USA Pre-Teen, Taylor Boyce (Miss Photogenic) was fourth runner-up.
The Miss Black Teen Texas USA Pageant is a part of the Miss Black Texas USA Organization and Black All-American Pageant Systems, Inc. It operates as a 501 © 3 organization.
